Charleville

Two full days in Charleville QLD have been delightful. Charleville has been dubbed the exaggeration capital of QLD, if not Australia. The Historical House Museum was not strictly a house but the original bank and was crammed with any loosely collectible items that could be found; including a Texas Instruments electric type writer. One very interesting item was a railway ambulance! This was an ambulance fitted with train wheels that could be used to treat injured people when the roads were impassible. It was driven by a train driver and a doctor. The last one was decommissioned the year of the Melbourne Olympics.

The adventure playground was about as adventurous as the walk to your letterbox. Definitely not likely to feature in the children's top five or ten. As it turns out had some members of the party been happier with the walk a better playground was just a little further on. The playground was next door to the local Men's Shed (Keith).

There was also the tour of a historic public bar which included afternoon tea. We didn't fall for this local trick thanks to an insight from fellow campers that did. The pub was generally run down with an eclectic mix of decor from most decades. The afternoon tea was 'previously cooked scones hidden under artificial cream accompanied by instant coffee or a tea bag'.

Three distinct highlights of Charleville have been the School of Distance Education, Bilby Experience, and Introduction to the Night Sky.

  1. Looks like you're all having a ball! Ali has been most impressed by the cows so far! And she would like to know why you're all monsters on the bridge?! Great to know you've got access to some good caffeine too! I should apologise for my slackness in getting a happy birthday message to you Nik! I know it was a big driving day, but i hope it was a great feeling to be on the road and freedom filled for your 41st! Loving reading your posts, keep safe and have fun! Love from all the Stryboschs
ps, we lost the first test of the Ashes by 14runs, just in case you hadn't heard out there in the boon docks.
